UH-1D 'Stretch' Huey (x3) w/PE
[UH-1D-700]

The Huey helicopter, formally known as the Bell UH-1 Iroquois, was the iconic aircraft of the Vietnam War. The distinctive wop-wop of the Huey's rotor blades stirs the memories of the generation that came of age during the turbulent 1960's. Uniquely versatile, the multi-purpose UH-1 brought tactical flexibility to modern warfare. With its innovative design and rugged reliability, American commanders were able to strike whenever and wherever they wished. In 1963 the first UH-1Ds arrived in Vietnam. With a longer fuselage than previous models, increased rotor diameter, increased range, and a more powerful engine, it could carry up to 12 troops. In addition to the stretched fuselage, a distinguishing characteristic is the larger cargo doors, with twin cabin windows, on each side. Although most UH-1Ds were used as transports in Vietnam, some were armed as gunships with armament including M60D door guns, quad M60Cs on the M6 aircraft armament subsystem, 20mm cannon and/or 2.75 inch rocket launchers.

While photography of these little gems is a challenge for our equipment and limited skills, check out the details of the well proportioned model including the lengthened fuselage with open, two-window cabin doors, rocket launcher tubes (that can be easily removed to become a troop transport or medevac Huey), engine cowling with exhaust tube, the delicate landing skids and synchronized elevators on the tail boom. Of special note in this set is the inclusion of White Ensign Photo-Etch main rotors with swash plates, tail rotors and landing skids for those that would like to replace the 3D printed skids on our model (including a few extras of each component in case you have any handling issues as we sometimes do!).

The surfaces are not perfectly smooth (3D printing is done in layers) but the plastic used can be sanded and painted much the same way you would handle resin or styrene. The models may still have some powder and oil-like agent on them that needs to be removed by washing in warm water with a drop of detergent added to it.

NOTE: While we currently maintain limited inventories of most items, some items may need to be "printed on demand", which usually requires 10-15 business days from order to shipment.
