1/700 North American SNJ 'Texan' Advanced Trainer (x4 Gear Down)
[SNJ-700]

For more than six decades after its birth in 1937, the AT-6 Texan and its offshoots (the Navy SNJ and the Canadian Harvard) were used throughout the world as advanced trainers, artillery spotters (in Korea and Vietnam among other theaters), and even as counterinsurgency and fighter-bombers by numerous developing countries. In fact, the records show that the Texan was used to train more military pilots from more countries of the world than any other aircraft ever built before or since. The last known military use of the Texan was by the South African Air Force as a trainer in 1995, which gives it a working history of 60 years, a figure virtually unrivaled in the history of aviation. The Texan was developed with the express intention of creating an advanced trainer as a last step for pilots before they graduated to fighters. The Navy used the rugged Navy N3N and Stearman/Boeing N2S (PT-17) for primary, the SNV (BT-13) for basic training and the SNJ (the Navy's designation for the AT-6) for advanced fighter training. Thanks in large part to this lineup of training aircraft, the US Navy graduated many of the world's best trained Navy and Marine pilots the world has ever seen. The reason so many T-6s are still flying today is that more than 17,000 were produced.

This is the first model of the AT-6/SNJ Texan ever produced in 1/700 scale. The set offered here actually includes two different models: (x2) gear down, canopy closed and (x2) gear down, canopy open models. We think that the 3D printed model offered here exceeds the quality of comparable WEM resin and Pit-Road white metal models but we've posted high resolution photos so you can judge the quality for yourself. While photography of these little gems is a challenge for our equipment and limited skills, check out the well proportioned model including the fuselage with detailed (closed and open) canopies and tiny spinner, the wings and landing gear, and the distinctive tail assembly complete with even the tiny tail wheel.

While the surfaces are not perfectly smooth (3D printing is done in layers), the plastic used can be sanded and painted much the same way you would handle resin or styrene. The models may still have some oil-like agent on them that needs to be removed by washing in warm water with a drop of detergent added to it.

NOTE: While we currently maintain limited inventories of most items, some items may be "printed on demand", which usually requires 10-15 business days from order to shipment.
