The Ju 290 was armed with 200 FuG Hohentwiel search radar, had a range of over 3,700 miles and could remain airborne for over 20 hours. By early 1944, the definitive variant, the Ju 290A-5, had replaced its increasingly vulnerable predecessor, the FW 200C Condor in maritime operations. It featured self-sealing fuel tanks, improved defensive armor and armament including fore and aft Focke-Wulf flattened low-drag type dorsal turrets, each mounting a 20mm MG 151 cannon which were also employed at both lateral gun positions, the tail position and one firing forward in the offset ventral gondola (with a 13mm MG 131 machine in the tail of the gondola to boot!).

We believe that this is the first model of a Ju 290 ever produced in 1/700 scale. The detail of the 3D printed model offered here easily rivals and likely exceeds comparable Pit-Road white metal and WEM resin models but we've posted high resolution photos so you can judge for yourself. The Ju 290 was HUGE airplane and even in 1/700 scale, the size of the model is impressive (wingspan is over 2-1/4"). Check out the well proportioned model including the massive fuselage complete with a detailed canopy, windows, doors, the offset ventral gondola, dorsal gun turrets; the wings and engine nacelles and that huge twin-tail assembly.

While the surfaces are not perfectly smooth (3D printing is done in layers), the plastic used can be sanded and painted much the same way you would handle resin or styrene. The models may still have some powder and oil-like agent on them that needs to be removed by washing in warm water with a drop of detergent in it. The landing gear on this model is represented in the retracted, in-flight position but it should be fairly straight forward to add photo etch parts for a "gear down" rendition, perfect for an air base diorama.
